Subliminal Messaging (well...actually more like Instant Messaging haha)

Well I was readin' my emails, thought I'd act upon the suggestion.

So what do I think about free music, eh? Well, I think that free music is great. I think that all music should be free, unless your actually buying a CD or something.

I mean, especially with I-pods, you buy the freakin 200 or 300 dollar thing and then you gotta buy all your music, song by song, too? And lots of people will say "Yeah well lots of places do that, not just I-tunes." And to that I say "Yeah, and a lot of places play Celine Dion in their elevators...that don't make it right." No, music shouldnt have to be payed for if you're downloading it, ESPECIALLY if you bought the stupid I-thing in the first place.

I think paying for downloadable music is like a fine on happy.

Well, that's what I think. The Thoughts Of A Rocker.

  1. You bring an interesting point to the table. People are still paying for devices that play music (and good money) at that. I think there are a lot of electronics companies that are singing through their noses thinking, "at least our market is secured". I'm not saying that people shouldn't pay for these devices, but somehow they got off scott free. Maybe they should be paying residuals to musicians to keep the music industry a sustainable market. After all, I don't know many artists who wouldn't want to make a living at what they do.

I think free music offers the chance for discovery. First you hear it, then you like it, and then you buy it. It's always been that way.

  2. Exactly! I think you should download the stuff to see if you like it, and if you do THEN go out and buy the CD. I mean, I wouldn't know of half the bands I do if not for downloading.

But all the same the musicians ARE trying to make a living off of this. And I mean, there's nothing like buying a good CD. You can download all the songs off of it and even put them in order and burn it to a CD but in the end it's just not the same as buying the actual CD. Believe me. I know. ;)

  3. So true. I think there are a lot of people that appreciate the whole "experience" of buying a CD. I think people like all the extras, the lyrics, the thank you notes, the pictures, the artwork... If you're going to make a CD, just make sure that you have some good extras packaged in there. Unfortunately, disposable music tends to have disposable packaging. Mainstream CD sales are down? Hmm... that's weird.
